Tasty Tuesday: Dirt Cake

Dirt Cake p3 Dirt Cake

Yes that is indeed a “cake”. Although when you present it in a cutesy flower pot and have rosemary it in, you’ll be sure to catch some strange glances when you dive into it with your spoon. But when they see that creamy pudding interior, trust me, they’ll be asking for a spoon as well.

This is one of my childhood favorite treats. It made the rounds at birthday parties, school parties, you name it. Sometimes there were even gummy worms in the center or crawling out of the top. This especially pleased the boys ; ) The crushed oreos scarily resemble dirt, making this cake quite believable.

I like to present mine in small ceramic flower pots. And make a smaller 8 x 8 dish with the rest. If you plan on adding herbs {as pictured above} or even flowers, just wrap the bottoms with plastic wrap. I’ve found the best way to crush the oreos is with my food processor. If you don’t have one, just throw them into a large zip top plastic bag and crush them with your rolling pin {great job for the kids}
